SUFFIXES 1 - Making Nouns with Endings

Warning: Many people create new words with Prefixes, but NOT with Suffixes.  WordMaker helps you see the "little changes" made to existing words.  Then then you can remember that word and use that word again yourself.

But, what a lot of choices! This language can make nouns - or "things" from other nouns...or from verbs or adjectives.

1. Noun to noun:  It makes one "thing" into another "thing." It puts friend with - ship and gets friendship. Here are some others. It makes a bigger noun from a smaller one.
father + hood = fatherhood Also: motherhood, manhood, womanhood, neighbor hood, sisterhood, brotherhood
diplomat -t + cy = diplomacy
act + -ion = action

2. Verb to Noun: It takes an "action" like govern and turns it into a "thing" like govern + -or = governor or govern + -ment = government. Try these:
play + er = player
judge + ment = judgement

fail + -ure = failure

3. Adjective to Noun:  It takes a "quality" and makes it into a "thing." It puts free with "-dom" and it becomes a noun: freedom. Try these:
great + -ness = greatness
social + -ism = socialism

4. Many letter changes:  Often to get the -ion ending (noun) there are many ending letters changed for easier sounds. Look for the base word:  add > addition,  admit>admission, permit>permission

More to come: You've just begun to see all the endings that give you more words easily. This will cost you nothing for all those extra words.
