Sentence Stress
In the next 6 SayIt lessons -- L-M-N-O-P-Q -- you will learn how to sound much more understandable when you say things. To do that, you must know about using Sentence Stress in the right way.
Now, do you remember how you put Syllable Stress on one part of a word? Sentence Stress is different, because you put stress on many different words in the sentence. So let's start listening and speaking this Sentence Stress....Repeat this sentence after me:
Tom is the cook on the ship this year...And again, Tom is the cook on the ship this year. Now, did you hear the words that were stressed?
Look at them now and say after me again: Tom is the cook on the ship this year .
When other people listen to you, they will want the Sentence Stress to sound like this. Let's try it with more sentences.
After me: Ann went to France with her son last spring. So you hear the stressed words? Again, , Ann went to France with her son last spring.
It is important that you hear the different stresses right now. Later you will listen for other things. Here is another one, after me:
Why did your friend take his car to the lake? Did you hear the stressed words? After me again... Why did your friend take his car to the lake?
