The second sound that a lot of people have trouble with is
the [a] in
face.
This is the [a] you learn when you learn the A-B-Cs. Some people call it a
"long a". Other people say it is a combination sound. But most people think it
is easy…except some people who are
learning it!
Now, here are the "long a" words from Lesson E: safe...case… lake… scale… straight...and a 2-part word: nation….Say those after me… safe...case… lake… scale… straight… nation
The main problem with this sound comes when you try to look at the letters that make it....Like baby, or straight, or great, or contain, or weight…But they are all the same sound! So say those after me: baby.. straight…great.. contain… weight.
So as we always say:…Learn the sound and the letters when
you learn the word!
