Lesson P - Grammar Music
Sometimes you want to say a lot in one sentence. Perhaps you want to say:
I started dancing Zydeco 4 years ago.
I was dancing it yesterday.
I am still dancing Zydeco today.
That's a lot of work, and it has been happening since language began.
So, we just say:
I have been dancing Zydeco for 4 years.
Wow! How did you do that?
Zydeco? Well, you put your left foot...
No, the verb form!
Take another look: I (S) have (HAVE/HAS)
been (BEEN) dancing (V + ING) Zydeco for 4
years.
Now, remember how one of the first things we learned: I am running.
(S + AM + V1 + ING). That was called Present Continuous. Not so scary,
right? So now we just have
S + HAVE/HAS + BEEN + V + ING
and it works!
Try that. See how simple it is, and then we will give you a
name for it.
(S + HAVE/HAS + BEEN + V + ING)
have
station years been at for eating
was this
