Lesson K Main?
Lesson K - Grammar Music
We came all this way just using subjects (S) and verbs (V). Now we are going to
add Objects. Objects are fun. You can
do things to objects. You throw objects. You
kiss objects. You laugh at Objects. You shout
at Objects.
When a noun or a pronoun is an object, something is being done to it.
Ann likes men.
That is Ann (S) likes (V1) men
(O). Here's how that looks in a diagram:

It's not always that simple, because we add words to the Object. But the Object is
still there.
Ann (S) likes (V1) old men
(O) with money.

Now, it's pretty simple with nouns. They stay the same whether they are a Subject
(S) or an Object (O). Ann is a noun. And men
is a noun...Pronouns are different. You know pronouns change
when they are possessive. Well...they also change when they are
Objects. So lets go back and say:
Ann knows John. OK? Now, let's put a pronoun
in the the place of Ann.
She knows John. (You knew that. We made the noun
Ann into the pronoun She.)
John knows Ann. (You guessed that)
He knows Ann. (Again, we just make the noun
John into a pronoun He...simple.)
But now...if we change the Object to a pronoun, we have
different forms.
Ann loves him.
John loves her.
We love them both.
Yes...you have completely new set of pronouns when they are
Objects. (Except for you and it. They stay the
same.) Let's look at all of those together.
1. These pronouns are Objects in a sentence.
I know Ann.
Ann knows
me.
You know Ann.
Ann knows
you.
He knows Ann.
Ann knows
him.
She knows Ann.
Ann knows her.
It knows Ann.
Ann knows it.
We know Ann.
Ann
knows us.
You know Ann.
Ann
knows you.
They know Ann.
Ann knows them.
So, Mary loves George.
he hers
him mine
She loves_____.
