Present Simple - Negative Sentences
Now you will meet the word "do." DO is for many things. Alone,
it means "make something happen." "I do" makes a very short
sentence. But you also need it for the Present Simple. Because the negative of "I
do" is "I do not do!"
Sometimes we say "I DO work!" so that it stresses the fact
we work. Here's the different
thing...The negative of I work is I do not work.
Again, the third person is strange. Instead of saying "He do
not works" we say "He does not work." The good news is that all rest of them stay the same at both
do not and work, so there is ONLY one verb change in Present Simple negatives...in
the 3rd Person.
Look:
I do not work.
You do not work.
He does not work.
We do not work.
You do not work.
They do not work.
Ok, so far so good. Now, look up at the words does not. When we change to
contractions, that one changes in a different way. Take a look at those:
I don't work.
You don't work.
He doesn't work.
We don't work.
You don't work.
They don't work.
Ok, are you ready for sentence-building?
Make the negative of They work on Sundays.
doesn't work they not Sundays on do
